Whitton put in a perfect display of precision football to claim their first league double of this campaign. R Wright hit the bar early on and Inglis sent a free kick just outside the area wide of the far post. A corner reached D Wight at the far post whose overhead kick was only just wide. Ely were kept back by a good defence, Bell having to shoot from distance which went wide of the far post, and Whitton went ahead when D Wright lobbed over Pacey. Chadwick headed wide of the near post for a rare Ely chance, in a first half that was dominated by Whitton.
The second half was again owned by Whitton, who were denied two clear penalty claims in the opening minutes. D Wright headed off the bar then a Johnston strike was parried by Beal, the follow up was pushed onto the bar from point blank range but the young Whitton keeper collided with the post and had to be replaced by Waters. R Wright was brought down and D Wright was blocked off but again no decision, then R Wright rounded Pacey who pulled him down, but he got up and walked the ball into the net, finishing the move with a cheeky back heel. Waters was called upon to save a close range effort and turned another over the bar. D Wright had a goal ruled out for a tight offside decision but kept going and buried his brace late in injury time
