Whitton started the season with an impassioned victory in front of their loyal supporters against a Swaffham side that were chasing shadows for periods of the game. A brief scare in the opening minutes which new keeper Foster dealt with easily spurred the home side into action, and despite the antics of the very lively Kenny it was Whitton who were by far the most in control team on the pitch.
Brown regularly outpaced his marker on the far wing and put over numerous crosses which terrorised the Swaffham defence; Clarke fired a good chance high and wide, Cooper headed just past the near post before Hill got a goal on his debut with a flicked backwards header past Brookes. Whitton went on the rampage and should have had another three before half time through Cooper, Clarke and Hill, but for some heroics by the Swaffham defence.
The second half started with Swaffham on the attack, Foster saving point blank from Hunter who chipped the rebound over the bar. Whitton got their act back together and were soon back on top, Brown skipping through the midfield before unleashing a cross that Clarke put wide of the far post. It was from another Brown cross that allowed Whitton to double their lead, with Harewood steering his header in at the far post.
The lively Kenny tried his best to rescue something for this team, but was unable to complete his moves, as the visitors were closed down whenever they had the ball. A free kick over on the far side was headed in by Cooper but his celebrations were cut short by the ref who ordered the kick retaken, which was caught by Brookes. Whittoon did get their deserved third goal in extra time when substitute O'Neill raced away, rounded the keeper and cooly slotted into the empty net. The final chance fell with the final kick of the game, Kenny forcing the save of the match from Foster who fingertipped the ball away to keep an important clean sheet for the Greens.
